Age that women first noticed men were looking at them sexually

by Teelo888

Girls don’t get childhood. They get girlhood.

Because I don’t want to see any comments after this reblog on how it’s perfectly normal for boys to start noticing girls when they’re all going through puberty – this graph is based on women’s responses to an /r/AskReddit thread that specifically mention grown, adult men.

I remember doing a shift at my work experience placement in a bookstore and some grown man (he was starting to grey around the beard) came up to me while I was stocking the shelves. He was asking if I always worked in the History section and I said no, I stock all over the store (duh?) and suddenly went from zero to a hundred by asking “What time do you get off work? Can I take you for coffee?”

The feeling was instantaneous – hot and cold at the same time. Your stomach curdles and chills while your skin heats and feels like it’s melting away. My whole face turned red and all I wanted to do was vomit.  “I am fourteen years old.”

He looked embarrassed as hell.

… And yet

“What? No, you can’t be.”

“… BUT I AM. I AM FOURTEEN YEARS OLD.”

“Bullshit, where’s your ID?”

SIR, the only ID she has is from her JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.”  My (male) manager had walked up behind me (he later said he heard me say my age the first time around and came running over). “She’s a minor. She doesn’t have to show you anything. Can I help you with something? Do you need help with a purchase?”

The word ‘minor’ set this guy off and he started ranting about how I was leading him on. Another customer (probably in his 20s) overheard it all, looked at me and back at the guy, obviously determined that I was not in my twenties, sneered and went “Gross, dude” – which, yeah, but that set this creep off even more. My manager and another male employee ended up walking him out.

I will fucking love that manager until the end of days for stepping in like that – but unfortunately nothing will take away that cold, gut wrenching feeling a young girl gets hit on by a man twice her age.

I was fourteen, in the Bahamas on vacation, and a full-grown man tried to lure me away from the table where I was waiting for my mother who was in the washroom.  I was timid and shy and had absolutely no idea what his motives were, but in retrospect, best case scenario, he wanted me to have sex with him.  Don’t want to think about the worst case scenario.

I looked mature for my age, but he ASKED ME MY AGE AND I TOLD HIM AND HE CONTINUED TO PURSUE IT.

Thank the fucking lord my mother returned a minute later and had a fucking meltdown when she saw what was going on.

If men want to complain about how they’re always seen as predators, this  graph is  a good fucking example of why most women do.  I guarantee you that most women have one or two stories like this.

I used to ride on the back of my step-dad’s motorcycle sometimes (he’s like 6′2″ and over 200 lbs, I was 5′4″ and about 110) and one time this guy pulled up beside us and says to him “That’s a hot piece of ass you got back there!”

Dad raised his visor slowly.

“THAT IS MY DAUGHTER. SHE IS TEN.”

“Oh shit…. Sorry…”

I hadn’t even hit puberty, yet.

Every single person who presents as female as a child has this experience. Has a story like this. What does that tell you.

I was 14 when I held the door for an elderly man at work, and he grabbed my ass. I was too dumbfounded to react.. and I certainly didn’t look my age, I was a very late bloomer – my boobs finally grew in at about 17 or 18, I probably only looked 10 or 12 at the most at that age.

When I was 15 I had a summer job as a waitress at a family owned restaurant. A man who looked to be in his thirties said “Nice ass, baby.” “How old are you?” My manager caught what was going on and after arguing with the guy she walked him out but it scared the shit out o me.

I have a handful of stories, but I’ll stick to the big one that happened as a minor, and one that was just creepy cuz I made him think I was a minor and his response… ugh.

14: Walking in knee length black shorts and a tank top in the middle of California summer. A guy who (to me at the time looked past high school at the very least, maybe mid20s? fuck we all look the same til time hits) happened to be walking towards me. Turns around and starts following me trying to engage in conversation and hit on me, asking where I live and what my number was. I walk faster and he fucking follows me two and a half blocks and whistled at me until I whipped around and threatened to call the cops if he didn’t leave me alone. He finally left.

19: I took the bus to college for three to four years, four days a week. Same route for like.. a year or so. Apparently a guy who was clearly greying and about twice my age if not more shared the same route with me frequently and decided to strike up a conversation. I just so happened to also be wearing a ring on my ring finger cuz in the summer (summer lasts til like.. October here), that’s the only finger I can fit anything on.

He’s being super friendly and starts asking if I’m married, and when I say no I’m too young he asks how old I am. SUPER red flags by this point, so I say I’m 17.

His response: “Oh. When do you turn 18?”
Not “Oh cool” and back off.
When do you turn 18?”

I very coldly state “Not for awhile” and THEN he backs off. He tried to wave and be sociable again after and I politely nodded (cuz, y’know, society) and kept my headphones in. I cannot tell you how happy I was when the buses switched routes and I could get away from him.

I know these are mild to most people but it just… Seriously? Your response to “I’m not 18″ is “when do you turn 18?” Your response to this girl just trying to live and get out of the house blatantly shutting down every fucking question is to follow her through the damn neighborhood like a twit whistling at her til she threatens to call the cops? Like.. What the fuck?
