I’m not sure if anyone else has shared the new Native Appropriations article here, but it needs to be shared. Magic In North America, the newest story by JK Rowling, is extremely disrespectful to Native Americans.

Indigenous stories and traditions do not exist to be appropriated, and it is stuff like this that perpetuates native erasure and stereotypes.

JK Rowling posted this on Twitter:

You can’t just claim indigenous traditions and stories. The black magic of skinwalkers, from what I’ve heard (I’m Paiute, skinwalkers are a Navajo belief), is forbidden and NEVER SHARED, yet this white author thinks she is entitled to write about them?

This is cultural appropriation, and it’s honestly disgusting. JK Rowling has also completely ignored all of the Natives who have been calling her out on Twitter.

I have been a giant fan of Harry Potter for an extremely long time (just look at my archive), so please don’t think that this is just hate. I loved JK Rowling, and that is why I am so utterly disappointed by her abhorrent behavior.

Uhhuuugh jkr whhhhyyyy
