So I can get a custom google search bar to work that actually scouts my blog for the keyword you’re looking for, except it’s ugly as all hell and doesn’t actually show you the result, it shows you the url for the result without previewing the post.
Or …yea I got nothing. the Tumblr tag searching bar is not fun to work with either. Why is this website like this.

Guys….it’s…it’s even picking up on things that aren’t tagged as Phangs….it’s actually picking out keywords. I’ve either broken tumblr or fixed it. What is happening???!
(there is technically no way to browse by tag with multiple tags, e.g. /tagged/my+tag+tag2 will look for the single tag “my tag tag2″ rather than posts with the tag “my tag” and also “tag2″ – But if you use /search/ you can have %23my+tag+%23tag2 (%23 is HTML for the hash sign), and by searching for a hashtag in front of “tag2″ and in front of “my” it effectively limits it to tags rather than any word in the post (though if someone puts “#tag2″ in the post and not in the tag box, the /search/ will find it, but /tagged/ won’t))
And If you do it on the base URL (tumblr.com) instead of a blogs subdomain (myblogname.tumblr.com), it searches the whole site…
I would have told people about it if I had known they didn’t know!
It also seems like some people have had issues with the search and or tag browser not working well? But the full text search seems to be a surprise too.
IDK about searches just not working well… unless you mean the whole site search (rather than one blog)… if that has issue it probably relates to things like database sharding and “eventually consistent” databases, and the general fact that search on a large scale is hard, and with fast moving content it is even harder.
But individual blog searches and tag browsing usually work fine in my experience…
Although note that the blog setting that keeps e.g. google and bing from indexing your blog also will make internal search not work, e.g. kellyclowers.tumblr.com/search/ does not show anything at all (that’s just lazy lol). the /tagged/ browser works fine though.
I know for me that even when I am using the browser url for /tagged or /search it hasn’t always worked. If I do a search using “teeth” for instance, only half my dentist posts come up, but when I am doing it in this search bar, I’m able to see the ones the url search is not finding.
Also the /tagged url search doesn’t always find all the tags unless you put the tag in the first five slots of your post, but even then it’s always hit or miss. And I have no idea why.
