Spoiled Prince Taako
So strap in, I’m taking you all on a journey. A Prince AU.
- So Taako and Lup are a prince and princess respectively of an elf kingdom
- Taako was born first so he has to be heir
- He doesn’t give a /fuck/ about the throne
- He wants to give it Lup, she has great ideas, has drive for leadership, has a lot of changes in mind that their parents forbid because ‘tradition’
- Taako knows everything about the kingdom, about the local politics, alliances blah blah, he knows all the things forced down his throat.
- He doesn’t care.
- Taako hides in the library cause no one expects him there and he swore the head librarian to secrecy upon the pain of treason.
- Taako gets to read in peace, mostly boring books on royalty crap but the little book page that works there will slip in novels of adventure and travel in the stacks once in a while.
- Once the page slipped in some kiddy crime novel, it was okay, but Taako still teased the boy quietly.
- The page found him cook books sometime too.
- Taako wanted to be a chef, his parents thought it was beneath his station, but he learned when he was young and kept sneaking into the kitchens. It was his passion, not this life.
- The book page snuck him a book about a prince entering a torunment under the guise of knight, not letting anyone seeing his face, he won on his own merit, not because of his status.
- Taako liked the book page.
- His parents weren’t…the best people, not to their children nor to the people and people from other lands so it wasn’t too surprising when some sourcer showed up with a freshly baked curse.
- What was surprising is they threw it at Taako.
- Blame the child for the sins of the parents and all that.
- The next in line dies and the family falls if they don’t find a selfless love. Not to be loved alone but to truly love.
- What stupid bullshit? What did that have to do with anything?
- It didn’t matter, it was set and Taako had a year. The clock started and there was so much to do.
- In the course of a few months there had been so many snotty princes in Taako’s face trying to woo him and ask for his hand as if marriage=love.
- Didn’t work for his parents did it?
- Only one prince caught Taako’s attention. The prince from the kingdom of Death. Dramatic, goth, tall, could turn into a skelaton?
- Taako was smitten.
- Kravitz was actually….decent.
- Kravitz treated him like he was the one that hung the stars and the moon. Taako was falling.
- Taako and Kravitz spent a great deal together and Taako’s parents were thrilled until Taako sent Kravitz back home.
- “If I’m not dead in eight months, I’ll call you.” Taako’s has told him to Kravitz confusion.
- Kravitz didn’t want to come to this but it was an obligation that turned into a pleasure, Taako didn’t want to find love like that.
- Taako snuck out of the castle a lot with Lup’s help, he couldn’t stay in that place.
- In secret he found a job as a chef at a hole in the wall on the edge of town after bribing the owner into letting him but keeping it quiet that it was him in the kitchen.
- “So it worked? Like the book?” The book page whispered during Taako’s visit. “Yea little man, place got real popular real fast after cha’boy started.”
- The head librarian dared to scold the page for bothering Taako. Taako threatened to fire him if he spoke to…uh, kids what’s you’re name? Angus? To talk like that to Angus again.
- Angus was delighted, he was not fond of the mean librarian, but he loved books and this was the only work a boy his age could find.
- Taako started working on making sure that Lup would get the throne when he beefed it, so his parents couldn’t Weasel it away from her.
- “You’re gonna be fine, Koko.” Lup insisted. He didn’t argue with her.
- There was a count down on Taako’s arm, lined in black, marking off the months until he died. Marked off like a ruler.
- Taako always wore long sleeves.
- Kravitz wrote him despite Taako telling him not to, he was glad he didn’t listen. This wasn’t love, Taako had never felt love for anyone but his sister.
- He would die in a few months and he enlisted the book page in getting him legal books and helping draft a will.
- The book page slipped in some confidence building books and some about over coming the worst.
- Taako would miss him.
- Taako’s parents were furious when they found out about his cooking job that locked him up in his room, only allowing the book page and Lup to see him.
- Angus slipped in books that had loose pages on lock picking and making rope out of bed sheets.
- Lup tried to do a jail break and they both got locked into their respective rooms.
- Taako’s got a month left, no one knows the exact time likeTaako.
- The book page passes messages back and forth between Taako and Lup. Angus tells Taako his parents plan to marry him off to some prince name Sazed from somewhere neither of them heard of.
- Marriage to a dead man, what would Taako care after? Except he’d take the throne from Lup.
- Angus tricked Sazed in thinking Taako wanted to meet him in the near by forest and a patrolling guard found him and it turned out Sazed didn’t want to wait the last few weeks for Taako to die. He was arrested for attempting poisoning.
- Taako kept the book page around as it got harder to move, to stay up right and walk.
- Angus was the only person Taako saw leading up to the end, despite Lup setting her room on fire to get out and see her brother.
- “Ango, you got the will?” “You’re gonna be fine, sire.” “Do you?” “Yes…it’s all ready for you.”
- Taako had kept a lot of blanks as he wrote out his last will. He filled in the names before he couldn’t move anymore.
- “What! Sire! You can’t!” “Well I did.” “But!” “Your prince has spoken. *cough cough*” “You a shouldn’t have put me in it…”
- Angus took care of Taako even when he should be in the library, even when the librarian sent for him, especially when Taako started getting delrious.
- Taako woke up to Angus asleep half on his bed half in a chair near by. Taako was weak but strong enough to pull the boy into the bed with him as hold him like a teddy bear.
- It was in the middle of the night that woke Angus to Taako shuttering.
- “It’s happening little dude, tell Lup..tell her…she’s my favorite twin. I love her…”
- Angus was not above crying when Taako gave him letters for Kravitz. He would deliver them himself if it was for Taako. Taako was the only person who ever treated him nice here. Other than Princess Lup. But not like Taako.
- “You’re going to be okay, sire.” Angus insisted.
- “You gonna have that be the last thing you call me, squirt?” “You’re g-gonna be fine..Taako.” “Wish I were.”
- Taako held Angus like a teddy bear as the last of his strength left him, wishing for a lot, time would have been nice. Taako thought a lot before darkness over took his vision.
- His sister, Kravitz, hoping his dumb ass parents died, stupid sourcers, man he wished Angus wasn’t here to see him die but how grateful he was to have him.
- “Love ya kid.”
- Taako woke the next morning.
- He woke up? Do you do that when you’re dead? Nah, wtf.
- Taako sat up and nearly flung Angus off him.
- “Sire! You look much better!”
- Taako pushed up his sleeve, his time should be up. But the marks were gone, not a trace.
- Taako looked at Angus dumbfounded. Then it clicked. The curse broke, just not in the usual way.
- “Hey Ango? Wanted get adopted?”
