i really need to go to sleep but i’m crying in the club about todoroki
listen, this boy, okay……. this boy……. his childhood is stolen from him for the sake of hero training. he never has a chance to play or be a kid or experience the innocence & wonder of childhood. he’s subjected to all manner of extreme abuse & cruelty from his father. and then his mother, who was supposed to love him unconditionally, breaks from all the abuse she had to suffer & permanently disfigures him.
and this isn’t a villain origin story. this is a hero’s story. he takes everything awful that’s been done to him & he decides it stops with him. he explicitly says he wants to “avoid any unnecessary cruelty” to some villains. he tells bakugou violence isn’t the answer when dealing w children. he tells midoriya that heroes cry too sometimes. he had absolutely no model for kindness & friendship & love growing up & he still manages to find those things within himself. i don’t really even know how that’s possible, how you can suffer that much & come out kind & good on the other side, but he does.
he had ever reason to be bitter & cruel & unkind & he isn’t. idk he’s just such a rich, complex, admirable character & it’s probably the reason i love writing him sm. i get that this is a fictional character but he’s just such a wonderfully crafted one w so much going on that he fascinates me.
