Dreamwidth has been my main active posting platform for a year and a half now, and I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers talking about jumping ship over to DW with tumblr’s uhhhhhh current state of affairs.
But DW is kinda bland and boring if you’re too young to have been of the LiveJournal generation, and therefore don’t know where to look or start in order to build your friends list and find communities, so I’m going to do some of the legwork for you.
the_great_tumblr_purge: I made a dw community specifically for people jumping ship from tumblr to reconnect with each other.
addme: a friending community where you pimp yourself out and find other people with similar interests that you might want to see on your reading page.
addme_fandom: similar to above, only with a stronger emphasis on finding people based on your fandoms.
fandomcalendar: a community where you can find fandom events, such as big bangs, exchanges, challenges, bingos, etc. and other fandom communities that might suit your interests.
On a scale of “is occasionally forced to bathe” to “Instagram model with sponsors to hoe for” how involved is your OC’s Skincare routine?
What are your OC’s food preferences (flavors/textures/spiciness/calories/ when and how they eat) and how did they get that way?
What’s something pointless/petty/unimportant that IRRATIONALLY ANNOYS THE HELL out of your OC?
What’s your OC’s response to being asked for money by a homeless person?
Does your OC get lost easily? What do they do when they do get lost?
What would STOP your OC from Doing The Right Thing in a tense situation?
Realistically, could your OC (in their normal circumstances- i.e. at thier own house/battlecamp/spaceship etc.) keep a small child alive for a week if they had to? A Dog? A Houseplant? A rock with a smiley face painted on?
If your OC had to take the S.A.T. tomorrow with one night to prep, how would they do? both emotionally and academically.
What would cause your OC to chose to do something petty/pointlessly cruel?
On a scale of “Complete and Justified nervous breakdown” to “Conquer The Entire Galaxy and become an Immortal God-Emperor”, how well would your OC handle being abducted by Aliens?
What song is 100% garunteed to get your OC beyond turnt and will be sung loudly and emabarrasingly, either in public or the shower?
What perfectly-normal-to-them-thing does your OC do that confuses/pisses off/terrifies thier neighbors?

What thing did your OC’s parents do that your OC wishes they had a better explanation for?
How often does your OC “zone out” or do things on autopilot and how severe have the problems that have arisen from that been?
How strong or weak is your OC’s Impulse control? What’s the worst thing that happened becuase of thier Impulsivity or inability to be so?
How does your OC sabotage themselves?
What’s the trashiest item in your OC’s wardrobe, when was the last time they wore it and why do they still have it?
How Dehydrated is your OC right now? Are they going to fix this?
What’s your OC smell like? no, not that “Vanilla and Anxiety” evocative stuff, realistically. Body odor? what have they been touching all day? When was thier last shower? Did they put on any kind of artificial scent?
There’s only one Light of Creation, even if it’s collected multiple times. It’s called “the” Light of Creation, and the IPRE doesn’t end up with a cargo hold filled with incredibly powerful orbs of light. It’s always the same single piece of creation that slipped out of the creator’s hands fell out of place.
So what removes the Light from the IPRE or the Hunger when they get to a new world? Why is it always falling at the beginning of the year?
The story is linear. The IPRE’s perspective is linear. From the outside, it seems like one year in each world, happening one after the other and resetting the physical forms of the crew each time. But since each of these years happens in a separate dimension, consider: they’re happening simultaneously, in the same year.
The “reset” at the beginning of each year is not really a reset – the IPRE is returning to the beginning of the same year, at a different physical location. The Light always falls at the beginning of the year because it’s only just been misplaced; it’s gone when they reach a new location because it has to fall again, because the year is at the beginning again. The “one after the other” perspective of the crew isn’t wrong, it’s just a different way of ordering the experiences that is easier for the mind to understand. Seeing all of that happening at once would be devastating – it was devastating for Maureen, who saw all of those worlds at once and the one consistency between them.
There is still a century of experiences, but in a layered whole that’s only broken when the IPRE moves past that one year. They only had to restore the Light and defeat the Hunger on a single world to save them all, because all of these dimensions are connected: if there’s only one Light and only one Hunger, only one victory is needed.
So basically Kvothe mentions how his mom hated the meter of that song his dad used to sing sometimes, and I just read past it as a piece of storytelling.
But then the last line of that song:

I’d simply love it if Kote doesn’t know he met his aunt and got referred to as “excrescence” by her. Somewhere in the Fae the Cthaeh is chuckling.

my personal theory is that Denna is the other Lackless sister (the way Kvothe describes Meluan sounds a lot like Denna [but then, many girls in his stories are dark haired with red lips], the missing sister ran away with a troup, and Denna’s general enigmatic and flighty nature all seem to fit). and Denna definitely has a secret.
I also go back to her ring a lot. everyone who sees it says it’s a very fine stone. plus, she knows Yllish story knots which, I think, hint to the possibility that she opened the lockless box and took what was inside (the ring), and replaced it with something else.
but it could go either way. depending on how old Meluan actually is, it could be more likely that her sister is Denna or Kvothe’s mother. I think she’s referred to as younger than the Maer, but I don’t think it’s explicitly stated?
We should have, like … an event or a tag or something inspired by Magnus’s first duck carving where we’re encouraged to post art (visual, writing, handicrafts, music, whatever) that we’re nervous and uncertain about and then other people come in and say nice things about it.
It’s been almost a year since Magnus’s First Duck and I think that’s a great time to make this idea a reality.
So by the power vested in my by my own defiant self-confidence, I’m declaring June 1st-7th, this year and every year that follows to be Duck Days!
